Administrative Assistant - Southside Community Coalition
Basic Functions:
Responsible for teaching a series of courses on abstinence under the Michigan Abstinence Program administered by the Southside Community Coalition (SSCCo) in Lansing, Michigan. Each course will consist of about 25 teens (ages 12 to 21) and requires a minimum of 14 contact hours over a 30 day period. Parents will also be involved in some of the programming. The grant requires teaching 250 teens by the end of September. The Specialist will work with the Program Coordinator, the Grant Administrative Assistant, the Advisory Board and the SSCCo Director in designing and administering the program. This is a full time position for one year. There is a possibility that the grant and the position will be renewed each year for up to five years total.
Performance Expectations:
· Have experience in working with urban teens and parents of diverse backgrounds.
· Have teaching experience.
· Have written and verbal communication skills.
· Be outgoing and comfortable going out into the community into various settings (schools, churches, community centers, neighborhood meetings, athletic teams) to meet with, recruit and teach teens and their parents.
· Be able to learn and effectively teach the WAIT Training curriculum.
· Be able to explain the program in a positive manner.
· Believe in and have experience in teen health and healthy life style programs and, in particular, abstinence programs.
· Work cooperatively with the Program Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, the Grant Advisory Board, the Coalition Director and the Coalition Board.
· Shows creativity, initiative and sensitivity in developing and sustaining the program, in working with the community and in solving problems.
· Makes consistent effort to listen, understand, respect and satisfy participant needs.
· Can work in flexible work environments.
Supervision Received From:
Grant Advisory Board, Coalition Director and Coalition Advisory Board
Qualifications:
Completion of high school education (preferably college or community college); effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to accept responsibility for carrying out required tasks under the grant specifications; experience working with urban youth, parents and families; experience in teaching; experience in meeting new people, explaining programs and recruiting people to participate; some knowledge of health and healthy life style programs for youth and families.
Position Salary and Benefits:
This is a full time position of 40 hours per week. The pay is $29,000. There are hospitalization benefits.

Other information:
The person filling this position must be able to attend an orientation and training program on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 10 and 11. The job will begin after the orientation and training program.
