SOUTHSIDE COMMUNITY COALITION: HISTORY & PROGRAMS

The Southside Community Coalition was formed over 7 years ago by concerned citizens of South Lansing.  They envisioned a neighborhood center that would serve children, teens, families and seniors.  For the past five years we have been fulfilling this dream by operating a full service neighborhood center at 2101 West Holmes Road.

  • We have active after school programs for elementary and middle school  students, an urban 4-H club, a Teen Scene (a program for high school students), and a summer day camp.

  • We facilitate a health care outreach program under the Ingham County Health Department and a breast cancer education and outreach program under a Koman Foundation grant.  We teach a teen abstinence program.

  • We provide a food pantry, a county nutrition program, a clothing closet and a computer center that is open to the neighborhood.

  • We offer a Senior Luncheon and social and fitness programs.

  • Our after school program serves more than 20 children each school day.  Our summer camp serves over 50 children each day.  And our Teen Scene has an active core of 20 youth.

  • Our programs have been growing each year.  In 2007 we provided 3,348 program contacts for children and youth.  In 2008 this grew to 5,036 program contacts.

  • Like all non-profits, we can only sustain our services through grants and community support.  Funds raised will go to purchase food and supplies, to support community outreach and volunteer activities and to support special educational and recreational trips.  For information on how you can help click here.

We thank you for your generosity and your support of low-income and minority children, teens, seniors and families of South Lansing.
